THINGS TO SEE

Kraków, the former capital of Poland, enchants visitors with

a wealth of historic buildings and special places that must be seen. The ones that cannot, under any circumstances, be omitted include:

The Royal Castle on Wawel Hill, the Main Square area and its Cloth-makers' Hall, the Town Hall Tower, St. Wojciech Church, St. Mary's Church, the Barbican and Kazimierz, an old Jewish district – very popular with tourists and certainly worthy of your attention.

Kraków has a record number of commemorative mounds. The oldest ones include The Mound of Krakus and The Mound of Wanda, the largest being The Mound of Piłsudski and the most popular The Mound of Kościuszko.

Also of remarkable beauty are the environs of Kraków. Worth visiting: the Salt Mine in Wieliczka, Ojców, Pieskowa Skała, Oświęcim (Auschwitz-Birkenau – the largest extermination camp during World War II), Tyniec and Wadowice (the birth-town of Pope John Paul II).
